Child Safety Seat Program

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has a certified technicians for installing child safety seats. Please call to set up an appointment to have your seat installed or to have it checked for proper installation, call 504-598-5880 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office also assists at the Louisiana State Police, Troop B on Wednesdays when personnel numbers permit. There are no appointments needed at LSP. They will install the seat or check it on a first come first served basis.

Louisiana's Safe Haven

Louisiana’s Safe Haven Law provides a safe, legal, last resort to abandonment, allowing a parent to give up custody of a newborn up to 60 days old by bringing the baby to an emergency designated facility, or Safe Haven site.

As long as the parent leaves their baby with an employee and the baby shows no signs of abuse or neglect, the parent can walk away knowing that their baby will be safe.
The relinquishing parent may also call 911, allowing the parent to relinquish a baby to an emergency responder in a location chosen by the parent.
